Last Cadet of the Ember Wing
Every year Cinderhold Academy draws lots for ten dragon eggs and sends the other cadets to hold the burning Ash Line on foot. Mara Kessler, cadet number 200, draws the last egg: grey, cold and cracked. When it hatches at sundown it is the smallest dragon anyone has seen, and it breathes white fire, the fire the Academy swore was a curse. Now Mara has three days to teach a hatchling to fly, a rival who wants him gone, and a Commandant who is afraid of him.
