Engaged on Monday, Exposed by Friday
On Monday evening, Lin Qiao, a PR associate at Lanting Group, learns that her old colleague Pei Ruolan has told the press that she is secretly engaged to Jiang Yuhan, the heir of Yunhe Capital, the firm Lanting is negotiating with. Deny it and she looks guilty, since the leaker has a photograph of the two of them together; admit it and it becomes a love story, not a leak. So she grabs Yuhan, who walked into her lobby at the worst possible minute, holds up the only ring she has, a prop from a jewellery shoot, and says: say yes. He says it before he understands what he was asked. A rumour is now a promise, and over the next five days it has to survive a live interview, his mother, a leaked photo, a jeweller who knows a prop when she sees one, a contract, and a board vote. Every day needs a new lie. By Friday, one of the two has stopped lying.
